Women and society!

I know a mother who still yearns that she should have worked
instead of getting married and having kids so early. She loves
her kids to bits, but if given a chance, I'm sure she would go
back in time and change the things accordingly. A genius like
her definitely belonged in a different place.
I have a friend who is getting married to a stranger because she
can not marry the person she loves. Why, you'd ask. Because
being a girl, she can not defy the society to go against her
parents and marry a guy from another caste. She needs to bear
the burden of her family's honour.
I know someone who has cried all night on my shoulders
because she didn't know how to fight back her molester who
belonged from her own family.
I have sisters who are dictated what to wear and what not,
because the pride of their family lies solely in the length of their
skirts or the width of their tops.
I have been to my Grandfather's village where a 60-year-old
woman was raped in an isolated shed, and her rapists asked
her, "Aur kis kis ghar me ladkiyaan hain ye batao".
I have a brother who thinks it is difficult for him to opt for 'Soft
courses' because a guy needs to earn more and hence, go for
lucrative degrees.
I know a daughter-in-law who was ridiculed for her humble
family background, and her husband could not stand up for her
due to the fear of being branded as a 'Joru Ka Gulaam'.
I know a woman whose husband left her, went to a different
city, and managed to have an extra-marital affair openly. She
stayed with her parents, waiting for him to come back. I have
witnessed her patience and excruciating pain.
I have seen someone who was suffering from paranoid
schizophrenia and he had to be chained outside his house. Until
one day he was brutally raped and left bleeding.
Don't tell me stories where everything happens according to the
plan. Don't tell me everyone is happy in their lives. Don't tell me
we need more money than we need love and hope. Don't tell me
that women are scheming people who are out to eat men alive.
Don't tell me that men are stronger than their emotions. Don't
tell me that not everyone is chained to their own attics of
solace, silently brooding a way to find an escape.
Don't paint that illusion for me. Just. Don't.
