People have sewage water coming in running water, open drains, no access to toilets, social insecurity, groping of women and negligible medical access.

The situation had gotten worse in the recntr years, where the policies by hovergover arr only shpws on the paprr, not on the grounf level.

Rise of Mob Lynching India is not a mere coincidence!

Occurrences of crowd lynching the nation over are on the ascent. Many individuals have lost their lives in the thoughtless instances of crowd lynching in the course of the most recent four years. In spite of guarantees and a few cases of legal censures, nothing has been done on the ground to adjust the circumstance till now.

Initially just Muslims were focuses of the horde lynching. They were the primary focus of the composed packs of alleged bovine vigilantes or gau rakshaks, who were given a free deliver a great part of the North India. The danger of the gau rakhshaks developed so much that they began focusing on the dairy cattle merchants and even blameless Muslim men in the NCR locale, whipping them and afterward murdering them on the spot. That there was a law of land and discipline for criminal acts against blameless individuals has been totally lost on their brains because of the secret state bolster they have been getting. This secretive and clear help has encouraged the lynch horde to such a degree, to the point that they have begun trusting that the police will bolster them in embraced the errand. What is amazing the most is that the occurrences of horde lynching are occurring with no indications of backing off in states where the Bharatiya Janata Party rules. From Rajasthan to Jharkhan, Uttar Pradesh, and the recently vanquished saffron trophy in Tripura, the episodes of crowd lynching have spiraled. Tripura, where there was no instance of horde lynching amid the long Left principle, the entry of the BJP government has proclaimed another period of lynch crowds going crazy. To rub salt on the injuries of the people in question, much of the time of crowd lynching, FIRs are held up against the people in question and the culprits let off. There is no denying that a cognizant exertion has been made to encourage gau rakshaks. Just fourteen days prior, a Union pastor snatched features for getting photos clicked with eight men, who were indicted for killing a Muslim meat dealer in Jharkhand, and inviting them at his home.

Then Dalits

When the menace of mob lynching began, only Muslims were on the radar of the lynch mobs. But as the freedom to perpetrate the criminal acts were felt by hoodlums and the rule of law looked weaker than ever before, others too started facing the music of the gau rakshaks and the lynch mobs. Dalits are the second most common targets of the lynch mobs and the cow vigilantes. A number of Dalits have been subjected to mob lynching over the last four years. Rama Singrahiya, 42, was beaten to death using clubs and axes when he was sowing castor seeds on a plot in the village, located 30 km away from Porbandar. He died a day later. The mob was allegedly led by village sarpanch Harbham Karavadra, who is on the run, police said. According to the police, the Mer community members claim the plot where Rama was farming is gauchar (pastoral) land, meant for cattle grazing. As per the FIR, two men hired by Rama to help him sow the seeds were also beaten up. A number of Dalits have faced the lynch mob fury over the past few years, and the cases are only on the rise.

And then everyone was a target The lynching is no longer confined against Muslims. It is becoming endemic in nature as the fear of law recedes in the minds of the lynch mobs. The rising incidents of mob lynching on mere suspicion of child lifting show that the malaise is becoming deep rooted with complete disregard for the law of land. An IndiaSpend report says this year alone at least 24 people have been killed in such mob attacks. The report goes on to add that this is more than 4.5 times rise in attacks and 1.6 times rise in deaths of this kind over 2017, when nine persons were killed in eight separate attacks. An IndiaSpend report says, “Between January 1, 2017, and July 5, 2018, 33 persons have been killed and at least 99 injured in 69 reported cases. In the first six days of July alone, there have been nine cases of mob violence over child lifting rumours and five deaths, which amounts to more than one attack recorded every day...In all cases, the victims were assaulted on mere suspicion and no evidence of child lifting was found later. So far, police across states have arrested at least 181 persons in connection with 21 cases, according to information from the news reports”.

Government a mute spectator

Instead of taking action against the perpetrators to stop the menace, the covert support is helping them become all the more aggressive across the Gangetic plains and beyond. There is no denying that the state machinery like police and investigation departments have been outright biased in providing justice to the victims of lynching and hate crimes. Earlier this year a group of 67 prominent retired officials belonging to the country’s elite civil service cadres wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to take tough measure against the increasing instances of mob lynching. “We seek now and without delay a clear response from the Honourable Prime Minister and his government on these issues”, they said. The retired officials demanded “immediate and firm action against the perpetrators of such hate crimes against minorities in this country...These recent incidents undermine our Constitutional values and weaken the rule of law”. In July this year a Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra called the incidents of mob-lynching in the country as “horrendous acts of mobocracy” and asked the Parliament to draft new law to control the incidents of mob lynching across the country. The apex court bench headed by the Chief Justice also ordered the police to register FIRs under Section 153A of the IPC against those who are found guilty in such cases.

8 month old girl raped in Delhi

NEW DELHI:  A eight-month-old girl raped in Delhi has suffered internal injuries, a leading rights campaigner said on Wednesday, as she launched a 30-day protest to demand the death penalty for child rapists.

The victim had to be fitted with a colostomy bag after the attack, which occurred while her mother was out at work.
"She has gone through immense pain, her internal organs have been damaged. They will take a long time to heal," Ms Maliwal told AFP.
"She's just so small. It's horrific what she's gone through."
Supreme Court dispatched two doctors to check on the child's welfare on Wednesday after a lawyer filed a public interest petition asking it to intervene in her case.
Ms Maliwal announced a month-long protest to urge tougher laws in the country; India has some of the world's highest rates of sexual violence against children.
"People are just fed up with the system, they feel there's no hope. They don't know how to express their anger any more," she said.
"I will work day and night to ensure a safer environment for women and to force the government to listen to our demand for death penalty at least for all child rapists."
Police investigating the latest attack say they have charged the girl's 27-year-old cousin after he confessed to the crime.

"The fact is that an eight-month old baby has been raped. The doctors have given that testimony," she said, demanding the death penalty.
"There is no other way of creating a deterrence in the society because currently there is no fear of the law."
The victim's parents, impoverished daily wage labourers, have also called for the death penalty. Under the law the maximum sentence for rape is life imprisonment.
The country has a horrifying record of sexual crimes against women, with nearly 39,000 rape cases reported in 2016, according to government data.
A UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in 2014 said one in three rape victims in the country was a minor and expressed alarm over the widespread sexual abuse of children.
Nearly 11,000 cases of child rape were reported in India in 2015, according to the National Crime Records Bureau's latest figures.
It said three children were raped every day in Delhi alone.

Swati Maliwal, who heads the Delhi Commission for Women, visited the infant in hospital after the attack and has urged a change in the law to deter such attacks in the city known as the country's rape capital.

But Ms Maliwal said delays in delivering justice was a key reason why high levels of sexual violence against women persisted.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Delhi in 2012 to demand government action after the fatal gang-rape of a young student.

Welcome to India
The Supreme Court has held that only in “the rarest of the rare cases” when the alternative option is unquestionably foreclosed, the court could award death sentence.

‘Once Gandhiji’s family, we Dalits are being treated like untouchables again’

Downtrodden Dalits found a better life when Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi invited them to set up homes at the Sabarmati Ashram almost 100 years ago. Today, when the Ashram is gearing up to celebrate 100 years of its existence, these people who were once like family to the Mahatma are being treated like pariahs again. While the Sabarmati Ashram Preservation and Memorial Trust has organised a grand fete to mark the centenary on June 17, Dalit families at the Ashram allege the trust is treating them like untouchables by excluding them from all celebrations.

Forming a group called 'Harijan Ashram Bachao Samiti', they have listed their grievances and submitted a memorandum to the trustees. The families have also planned to stage a dharna on June 17. The trustees however refute the allegations, claiming that the celebrations are being hosted by Gandhian organisations including the Sabarmati Harijan Ashram Trust.

Shailesh Rathod (41), president of Gandhi Ashram Rehvasi Mandal and convener of Harijan Ashram Bachao Samiti, says, "Gandhiji came here with 99 Dalit families and called this place the Harijan Ashram. My grandfather Ukabhai was one of the families. We are the original ashramvasis but we have not been included in the celebration. We have no clue about the festivities to be held on June 17."

The memorandum presented by the Dalit families lists nine demands including information about the festivities, inclusion of residents in the activities and maintenance of all houses on the premises. Explaining this, Rathod says, "Gandhiji first established the Sabarmati Harijan Ashram Trust in 1934. Later, for various reasons, this was split into other trusts after 1951. One of our demands is that one of us should be part of these trusts."

Ashramvasi Hemant Chauhan (54), who works as a caterer, says, "We submitted a memorandum 10 days ago that the original inmates were being sidelined from this historical event. It is because of our families that Gandhi ashram has preserved its glory. We opposed several development schemes declared by the government that would have damaged this heritage site. Yet, we are being ignored while institutes like Navjivan and Gujarat Vidhyapith are a part of the fete." He adds, "The Ashram includes our houses too, not just the memorial. Yet, the trust has been using funds only to give the memorial a facelift while our buildings receive no maintenance."

More than 200 families live on the Ashram premises, and most of them are Dalits. The families pay rent ranging from Rs 5 to Rs 200 a month for the houses. Most of them have jobs or run small businesses. As per the memorandum, residents demand waiving of rent. "We want the houses to be gifted to us. We also want to be given priority in jobs related to management of the ashram," the residents seek in the memorandum. The memorandum also demands a stop against sale of merchandise like kurtas, books, mugs and soaps as "it is against the trust's Constitution". "The trust is supposed to take care of the memorial not indulge in commercial activities," the memorandum states.

Meanwhile, refuting allegations, memorial trust director Tridip Suhrud terms celebration as a historical one. Admitting he received a memorandum from Ashram residents, he says, "We will address their grievances. The trust's secretary Amrut Modi and Harijan Ashram Trust's Jayesh Patel met them. Our trust's chairperson Ila Bhatt will meet them soon."

He adds, "No individual is involved in the event. It is being hosted by eight organisations and trusts associated with Gandhiji. Other than the memorial trust, these include Sabarmati Harijan Ashram Trust, Gujarat Vidyapith, Navjivan, and Majur Mahajan Sangh. These families live in houses rented by Harijan Ashram Trust that is part of the celebration. So, there's no question of ignoring anyone."

About repairs to houses, Suhrud says, "A committee has been formed to decide how to use government funds." While Harijan Ashram trustee Jayesh Patel could not be contacted for comment despite several attempts, secretary Modi confirms they met residents on Saturday. "They have not been sidelined. However, we will talk to them once more to sort out issues."

Guest of honour

Gandhiji's grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi will be the guest of honour at the centenary celebrations to be held at Sabarmati ashram on June 17. Memorial trust director Tridip Suhrud says, "Gandhi will dedicate 'My life is my message' gallery and Charkha gallery at the ashram. He will also plant a baval tree. This is significant as several meetings of the Majur Mahajan Sangh used to be held under baval. We will also have a Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava prayer as per the tradition of the ashram."

Doctors Refuse To Touch His 'Unclean' Body. Is This 2017?

Even with all the progress we've made over centuries, terrible disparities continue to haunt our society. One of the most rampant taboos being the notion of impurity, any rational being would say, it's 2017, move on, but sadly, the society refuses to change it's regressive ways.

Case in point: alleged apathy of doctors in Pakistan, led to death of a sanitary worker who was battling for life, their reason? His body was covered with sewage filth and they refused to treat him unless he was 'cleaned'.

According to a report in Tribune, the worker named Irfan Masih along with his three fellow workers fell unconscious while cleaning a manhole on Chorr Road in Umerkot.

“The doctors refused to treat him because they were fasting and said my son was ‘napaak [unclean]’,” claimed Irshad Masih, the mother of the deceased to the Tribune.

All of them were rushed for treatment to Civil Hospital Umerkot, however the doctors refused to treat them and asked the attendants to wash their bodies.
While  the other three sanitary workers were referred to Hyderabad and later Karachi for medical treatment, Irfan remained at the Civil Hospital.

Irfan's brother, Pervez Masih, told reporters that after his body was cleaned doctors sent for an oxygen cylinder which was empty. He said, "before they could arrange another cylinder, he [Irfan] died,” he told local media.

Justice for Nancy!

Dear India, 12-year-old Nancy Jha was brutally killed, needs help for justice

New Delhi, June 1: Nancy Jha was a 12-year-old girl of Bihar, who was brutally killed after a suspected gang-rape and acid attack. Once again, a deceased daughter stuck in the piles of corruption and Hooliganism needs your help to get justice.
A resident of Madhubani, Nancy Jha was kidnapped on May 25 but was found dead in a horrifying condition on May 27. Her disfigured and decomposed body was recovered in a deserted farm about 1 km away from her house. In order to remove the evidence, acid was thrown over the body and tied in a cloth and thrown into the Tilguda river. Two people have been arrested but no trace of justice has been found.
The local people are fumed on the careless and corrupt attitude of the administration and the silence of national media on such sensitive issue. They fear that the crime will get lost amid the files and the innocent girl will not get justice even after her death.
If reports are to be believed, the prime culprits are not captured for their liquor trades with local police. Police have denied rape angle as well as the allegations of acid attack, which is clearly visible on her disfigured face. Police claimed that forensic report says she was strangulated to death but the pictures suggest completely different story.

The decomposed body of Nancy Jha was found on the bed of a river on May 27, two days after the resident of Mahadeva Math in Madhubani district of north Bihar, went missing.

Justifying rape with consuming beef, India!

A woman who was gang raped in Haryana has said her attackers asked her whether she ate beef.
“They asked if we eat beef. We said we don't, but they insisted we did.
"Then they said we're hurting you before so you don't".
Beef is doesn't mean cow, it includes buffalo and ox as well.
Atleast Kajol was given a chance to clarify that it was buffalo meat and legal.

Leftist, Right wing and Indian politics

Opposing social inequality, right wing ideology, manuwaad, caste based discrimination, religious inequality is what being a leftist means to me.

Yup, at one point I felt reservation should be removed. Why should I get 113 in JEE whereas someone from the OBC just needs to get around 70-80 or someone from SC/ST needs only 40-50.

Decades before the sexual assault of women during the 2002 Gujarat and 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots, Hindutva propounder Veer Savarkar justified rape as a legitimate political tool. This he did by reconfiguring the idea of “Hindu virtue” in his book Six Glorious Epochs of Indian History, which he wrote in Marathi a few years before his death in 1966.

For instance, said Savarkar, the caste system with its elaborate rules of purity and pollution helped stabilise Hindu society. But some of these rules became dysfunctional, degenerating into “seven fetters” of Hindu society.
These shackles, according to Savarkar, were untouchability, bans on drinking water from members of other castes, inter-caste dining, inter-caste marriage, sea-voyage, the ban on taking back into the Hindu fold those who were forcibly converted to Islam or Christianity, and ostracism of those who defied these prohibitions.
